Healix Vaccination Widget tackles medical criticism over lack of advice on last minute deal websites

Healix is offering travel companies an easy-to-implement solution to tackle recent criticism from the medical profession over the level of advice provided about health risks of certain destinations.  The Healix Vaccination i-Phone app, which is free to download, can be provided as a widget for travel companies' websites, immediately enhancing the customer experience.

A letter in the British Medical Journal from several UK doctors warned that travel websites offering last minute deals are not making holidaymakers aware of potential health risks at some destinations.  In particular the doctors are concerned about the lack of information alerting travellers to the risk of malaria in 'winter sun' destinations such as The Gambia.  This follows three cases of malaria being identified amongst UK citizens who had just returned from 'winter sun' holidays to the country.

The doctors claim that many travel websites and holiday brochures make no specific reference to the risk of contracting malaria.  They have called on ABTA to encourage its members to ensure explicit messages are put on their websites about taking medical advice before travelling to malaria endemic areas.

Healix has used its expert knowledge and resources to deliver professional health advice to travellers, right at their fingertips with its innovative Travel Vaccination i-phone app and widget.  Users simply select the country they need and answer a few yes/no questions to get a list of all the vaccinations required, as well as useful travel advice.  They can also select more than one country at a time which means travellers planning to visit numerous countries can get the information they need in one go, rather than looking up each country individually. Plus, it keeps a history of previous searches for easy reference and the results can be e-mailed anywhere.

Giving travel companies a quick - and low cost - solution to the criticism from the medical profession, the Healix Vaccination widget can be white-labelled with a company's own brand and used in viral marketing as well as on their website.

"ABTA has responded to the doctors' criticism saying that most of its members do provide advice about health risks of destinations, etc - but they acknowledge this isn't always upfront on websites" said Russell Smith, Healix.  "Our Vaccination widget can be very easily integrated onto the home or other pages of a company's website with very little development time or cost required.  And we believe this will give travel companies a very positive customer service benefit which could equally apply to travel insurance companies.

"In these financially straitened times, finding a great last minute deal is becoming more and more popular.  Our vaccination iPhone app and widget gives holidaymakers quick answers which will then prompt them to get in touch with their GP or clinic to get the right vaccines or medication."
