New contract to provide managed care service for FCO’s 16,000 employees around the world

Healix International has secured the contract to provide managed healthcare to employees of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.  The three year contract, which is effective from 1st April 2010, will give FCO staff access to a full range of occupational health services in the UK and both primary and secondary care services whilst working overseas.

"This is an important new contract for Healix because it capitalises on the wealth of experience we have in managing the delivery of healthcare services overseas. Importantly, we will also be involved in the Occupational Health assessment and preparation of FCO employees before they are posted abroad", confirmed Steve Hook, Sales & Marketing Director, Healix.

"Healix's philosophy of putting medical needs first, but with a clear view of cost containment, was particularly important to the FCO in awarding us this contract" continued Steve Hook.  "Having nurses as case managers ensures that FCO employees will be given the right medical advice and guidance from the outset of a call."

The new contract requires Healix to ensure that FCO employees who require medical assistance whilst overseas receive care consistent with the level of entitlement available from the NHS.  Working with an established network of medical service providers around the world, Healix case managers will determine the most appropriate medical care required for each individual and manage the arrangements to ensure that the medical treatment of FCO employees is their first priority.

In the UK, Healix will work with one of the country's leading occupational health providers, RPS, to provide FCO employees with access to the occupational healthcare support they need.

"This contract is immensely exciting for us because it combines both UK and international medical needs for individuals and their families, some of whom work in challenging environments" concluded Steve Hook.  "The combination of our medical expertise and international experience with our exceptional cost containment arrangements will give FCO employees the care they need whilst enabling the FCO to effectively manage its healthcare budget."
