New appointment reflects growth of medical assistance business

Having built a strong reputation in the international medical assistance and insurance sector over the last decade, Healix has strengthened its medical resources with the promotion to the board of former Chief Medical Officer, Dr Finn Morgan MB BS, BSc, FRCS, as Group Medical Director.

Dr Morgan will ensure that the medical focus at the heart of all Healix services is maintained and enhanced to sustain the business's pre-eminent position in the travel insurance and healthcare trust markets.

Dr Morgan joined Healix in 2003 and has been responsible for the development of its medical services over the last 5 years.  In particular, he has spearheaded the Nurse-led approach Healix applies to both its medical assistance and healthcare trust services which remains a major differentiator for the company.

"We have a very clear commitment to putting medical expertise at the centre of all our services" confirmed Dr Morgan.  "And that gives us a unique ability to combine medical care with cost containment without any detriment to patient welfare - whether it be in the case of medical assistance for travellers injured or ill abroad or for individuals covered by one of our Healthcare Trusts.

"My goal is to sustain this focus - building on the wealth of expertise we already have in the Healix business, as well as introducing new resources as appropriate to keep us at the forefront of medical innovation."

Dr Morgan qualified as a doctor in 1994 from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School in London with honours in Pathology. In 1991 he had already been awarded a BSc (First Class Honours) in History of Medicine from the University of London.  He pursued a career in surgery and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998, attaining the Hallett Prize in the process (for the highest mark achieved in the FRCS examinations).

At the completion of his basic surgical training he undertook a 30 month period of pure research at Imperial College London working in the field of xenotransplantation. This research was published and presented at several international meetings. Following this Dr Morgan was admitted to the North Thames Higher Surgical Training Programme in Urology and gained extensive operative experience. While on a sabbatical from this programme Dr Morgan was introduced to Healix International and he chose not to return to NHS practice.

"We are delighted that Finn has taken on this new role in the Healix Group", confirmed Dr Paul Beven, Director, Healix Group.  "We have achieved consistent growth over the last decade, primarily by listening to our customers in order to develop the products and services they need.  In his new position, Finn will be able to provide even more guidance on the application of medical expertise to enhance and differentiate our services for the wide range of businesses we now support."
